Renewed day by day in the Lord

Welcome to Tsukuba Love of Christ Church

We are a Protestant church in Matsushiro, Tsukuba, surrounded by the greenery and changing seasons of Ibaraki, Japan.

Here, people of different generations and language backgrounds worship side by side. Some have followed Christ for many years, while others are visiting a church for the first time. Some were born and raised in Japan; others have come from around the world to study, work, or build a life in Tsukuba.

What holds us together is not sameness, but the grace of God that meets us in our weakness and renews us through Jesus Christ.

We gather to hear God’s Word, praise Him, and share life and faith—rejoicing together in good times and supporting one another through difficult ones. We are not a community of people who have everything figured out, but a family being renewed day by day by God’s grace.

Whether you are new to faith, returning after time away, or simply wondering what church is like, you are always welcome.

We pray that you will encounter Jesus Christ and find joy, rest, and living hope in Him.

⑥Features of Our Church

You’re invited—
come and get to know us

At the heart of our life together is God’s love. Here are nine things we value in worship, community, and service. Tap or hover over a card to learn more.

Centered on the Bible
and worship

The Bible and worship are at the center of who we are. As we listen to God’s Word and gather in praise and prayer—the heart of the church—we come to know more deeply the unchanging and eternal riches found in Jesus Christ. If this is your first time visiting a church, you are always welcome at our Sunday worship services, where the message of the Bible is explained in a clear, easy-to-follow way.

Alive with
a new generation's energy

Our church is full of youthful energy, with elementary and junior high students, university and graduate students, young working adults, new moms, international students, and many others. They face each day with hope, joy, and purpose in Christ. Younger generations are an important part of our church, and people of every age are always welcome here.

Rooted in Tsukuba, here to stay

Our church is rooted in Tsukuba and serves communities across Ibaraki. Through Christmas events such as Christmas from a Single Candle and Lantern Art Tsukuba, donations for disaster relief and recovery, support for the Tsukuba Children’s Blue Feather Fund, and visits to nursing homes, we seek to share God’s love with our community in both word and action.

Nurturing children in God’s Word

Are you a new parent, or finding parenting difficult? Nurturing the next generation is something our church cares about deeply. We want children to see that life is about more than grades or money. We seek to help them discover the love, freedom, and grace found in God’s Word, while growing in responsibility and building their lives on the unshakable foundation of God’s love. This commitment also led us to establish Cross Mission Christian School (CMCS).

Finding healing
through Bible study

Life can leave any of us deeply wounded, at times even in despair. Some people lose sight of their purpose and hope. Throughout the year, our church offers Bible-based seminars on emotional healing and the restoration of families and marriages. Even in times of loss and despair, God’s Word gives us strength to face the future and keep going.

Celebrating together
all year

Every season brings something special at our church. Throughout the year, we enjoy New Year mochi-making, Easter picnics, summer camp, fireworks, nagashi-somen (flowing somen noodles), Thanksgiving, Christmas, sports, and more. Through these shared experiences, we enjoy God’s gifts, grow in love for one another, and become closer as a church family.

An international,
multicultural church

Tsukuba is an international research city, home to people from around the world, and our church reflects that diversity. Here, people from different cultures and language backgrounds worship, learn, and share life together. Whether you are new to Japan or have lived here for years, we hope you will find friendships that cross cultures and languages—and a place to belong.

Welcomed into a family
in Christ

Ours is a warm, welcoming church where people of all ages share faith, daily life, laughter, and care. Jesus said, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34). We seek to live out these words through fellowship, forgiveness, practical care, and service, growing together as one body in Christ. This is the kind of family in Christ we hope to become together.

Praising God
through gospel

At our church, we praise God with all our hearts through gospel music. The word gospel means good news, and that good news—God’s love and salvation in Jesus Christ—is at the heart of the songs we sing. Gospel music may be new to you, and you may not feel confident singing. That’s all right. Church is not a concert, and you do not have to sing perfectly to join in. Come and praise with us.

⑦Vision

-Cross Mission-
From Tsukuba to the world, from generation to generation

Thank you for taking the time to explore our website.

We hope it will be helpful to anyone who is thinking about visiting a church.

The Bible brings hope to the human heart and nurtures in us the love and forgiveness that reach out to others. Even when we are caught in deep distress, God’s Word brings release, healing, and freedom.

Rooted in the Bible, our church follows a vision we call Cross Mission.

Like the cross, whose lines meet and extend outward, we believe that the gospel—the good news of salvation reaching across generations and nations—connects Tsukuba with the world and one generation with the next. We trust that God will bring this work to completion.

Our prayer is that people around the world will encounter Jesus Christ through His church and find lasting joy in Him.
