Children’s Ministry & International Community
Thank you for visiting the website of Tsukuba Love of Christ Church.
If you are looking for a welcoming church where your children can grow in faith while building friendships in an international environment, we would be delighted to welcome you.
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus said:
“Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
— Mark 10:14
We believe every child is a precious gift from God.
At Tsukuba Love of Christ Church, children learn about God’s love through Bible stories, worship, prayer, and friendships. We hope they will grow with courage, kindness, gratitude, and joy—qualities that will remain with them throughout their lives.
Growing Through Faith, Friendship, and Culture
Our church is home to families, university students, researchers, and children from many different countries. Rather than simply studying a language in a classroom, children naturally experience English and other languages through real friendships and everyday life.
Although our English and multilingual activities are held on selected occasions, children can experience this international atmosphere every Sunday through worship services and Sunday School.
During worship, we often sing songs in English. Children introduce themselves, play together, and naturally hear different languages spoken around them. Through these simple everyday experiences, they become familiar with different cultures and develop friendships that cross national borders.
Children of many ages and nationalities gather here, creating a warm and welcoming community where every child can feel accepted, whether outgoing or shy. We want our church to be a place where children truly feel they belong.
Multilingual Activities and Everyday International Experiences
Throughout the year, we also offer special opportunities for children to experience English and other languages in enjoyable ways.
- English & Cross-cultural Activities: Children enjoy communicating with friendly bilingual and trilingual university students, graduate students, and researchers from around the world.
- Asian Language Activities: From time to time, children also have opportunities to experience languages such as Korean and Chinese.
Even when no special activities are scheduled, Sunday School continues to provide opportunities to sing in English and spend time with children from many countries. Because of this, children naturally encounter different languages and cultures throughout the year.
No previous English experience is necessary. Simply spending time in an international Christian community helps children broaden their understanding of the world while learning to appreciate people from different cultures.
Even If This Is All New to Your Family
You may feel that your family has little experience with English or international communities—and that’s perfectly okay. Many of the children who come here felt exactly the same at first.
Even if they cannot speak the same language, children quickly become friends as they sing, play, and spend time together. What matters most is not language ability, but that every child feels loved, accepted, and free to be themselves.
A Church Surrounded by Inspiring People
Our church is blessed with people from many different backgrounds and professions. Some teach languages such as French, others teach art to children, while many are researchers and engineers working in Tsukuba’s world-renowned research institutes. Children naturally grow as they interact with adults from many different professions and backgrounds.
Meeting people with diverse experiences broadens children’s horizons and helps them see the world from many different perspectives.
Children from the Christian international school founded by our church, Cross Mission Christian School (CMCS), also participate in Sunday School. Friendships naturally grow as children play, worship, and communicate together—sometimes in English, sometimes in Japanese, and sometimes in other languages.
Seasonal Events Throughout the Year
Children can also enjoy a variety of seasonal events throughout the year, including summer camps, concerts by professional gospel singers, children’s performances, craft workshops, Christmas celebrations, Easter events, Thanksgiving gatherings, Children’s Day celebrations, birthday parties, and many other special activities.
Whether your child is outgoing or quiet, we strive to create a safe, joyful, and welcoming environment where every child can participate at their own pace.
Our prayer is that this church will become a place where children find peace, lasting friendships, and a lifelong foundation of faith.
Building on this ministry, our church also established the Christian international school Cross Mission Christian School (CMCS). If you are interested in Christian education during the week, we warmly invite you to learn more about our school.
