Cross Mission Christian School (CMCS)
Cross Mission Christian School is a Christ-centered bilingual international school in Matsushiro, Tsukuba, serving students from elementary through high school. We meet five days a week, and admission expectations vary by grade level, language background, and previous schooling.
We care for the whole child — supporting each child’s growth in Japanese and English, intellectual development, character, faith, physical well-being, and relationships with others.
Grades and where a child goes next matter, but they are not the deepest question. The deepest question is who your child will become, and how they will take their place in the world ten or twenty years from now.
With the truth of Scripture and the love of God as our foundation, the school, the family, and the church walk together in raising each child.

At CMCS, faith is not an extra subject added to the timetable. It shapes how we teach every lesson, how we speak to your child, and how we handle the hard days. Here, believing is not something a child has to explain or defend — Christian faith is a natural part of everyday school life.
And a child’s language level at admission does not define their potential. We look at the whole child and consider the support they need — their current strengths, eagerness to learn, personality, and stage of development.
Families do not need to be Christian to apply. However, CMCS is openly grounded in Scripture, and we ask every family to understand and respect the Christian foundation of the school. Bible classes and chapel are part of school life for every student, though what each child comes to believe is always between them and God.

Five Commitments
Growing in Two Languages
We help children develop strong, age-appropriate skills in both Japanese and English, so they can communicate with confidence in both languages. Most subjects are taught in English, while Japanese language arts and certain other subjects are taught in Japanese.
With Japan as their home base, children encounter diverse cultures and perspectives and grow in their ability to express their own thoughts — and their faith — in both languages.
Small Classes Where Every Child Is Known
Teachers pay close attention to each child’s understanding and development, offering the encouragement and support they need. In classrooms where children feel free to ask questions and share their ideas, they can learn at their own pace and build both competence and confidence.
One Journey from Elementary Through High School
From enrollment to graduation, we support each child’s growth over the long term, guided by one shared vision.
Across the years, teachers build on a shared understanding of each child and help families consider the paths ahead — in Japan and abroad — in light of each student’s hopes and gifts.

Our teachers and staff are committed Christians who seek to teach and serve in accordance with Scripture. They continue to develop their knowledge and skills as educators and care for each child with love and a deep sense of responsibility.

Three partners support each child’s growth — the school, the family, and the church — each with a distinct role. We also value learning and friendship across grade levels, aiming to be a school community where we serve and encourage one another.
CMCS is a member of ACSI (the Association of Christian Schools International), which connects Christian schools around the world.
Attendance and Admissions
CMCS is a full-time school, with students attending five days a week. Although our approach shares some features with alternative forms of education, we do not currently offer one- or two-day-a-week attendance options.
Admission requirements vary depending on grade level, language background, and prior schooling. We will gladly explain the admissions process and answer your questions in person.

When choosing a school, the life of the classroom matters as much as the philosophy and the curriculum.
What expressions do you see on the children’s faces as they go about their day? How do the teachers speak with and encourage them? How do questions and conversations flow in the classroom?
Some things simply can’t come across in words and photos alone.
